Daniel Fast 2020

Here we go! Once again we will journey, as a church, through 10 days of intentional prayer and fasting! It's time to put our faith into action and bring the fight to our knees in intercession... together! What will you believe God for? What expectations are you bringing to the spiritual table? Let's get real! Expect to be challenged! Don't expect an "easy" time! Expect a battle! Expect to wage war with your flesh as you intentionally deny it! However, you can also expect your Spirit man to rise up! You can expect victories! You can expect transformation and inspiration! As we crucify our flesh and surrender to the Spirit of God, we can expect healing and miracles, deliverance, freedom from bondage, breakthrough in every realm, a deeper depth of spiritual growth and testimonies of answered prayer! Keep in mind, that fasting without prayer, is nothing more than a diet! When your flesh screams…. let it be a reminder to hunger for GOD, His will, His plan, His desires... and run to your prayer closet! Fight the good fight and stay the course! Be intentional about praying and spending time in the Word. Then listen for His voice! Be still and know He is God! Be astoundingly aware of His presence! May your spiritual eyes be open and your heart ready to recieve as you join us on this journey! Please utilize this blog to share thoughts, prayers, prayer requests, scripture and encouragement as God speaks to you. Share your personal struggles and triumphs! As we take this journey together, great and mighty things are in store! We are praying for YOU!

Here's a recipe for the Daniel fast

BARLEY AND MUSHROOM DISH
1 cup of pearl barley (Cook as directed on bag) when it's cooked add 1 & 1/2 cups of vegetable broth/stock and simmer with lid off
Saute onions, green peppers,mushrooms, garlic powder and cumin and kosher salt
Combine together
It is delicious and very filling

For a snack use fresh kale
Peep tender part of leaves off, breakup medium pieces into a bowl, add olive oil and kosher salt
Put on a cookie sheet and bake at 350 for 5 to 10 minutes until crispy

BLACK BEAN BURGERS
3/4 can of black beans drained and smashed in a bowl
Put remaining beans in the same bowl UNSMASHED
Put 1 cup of cooked brown rice and combine the beans and rice together
Add 1/2 teaspoon cumin
Kosher salt to taste
Form into patties
Put olive oil in a hot pan
Cook until firm enough to flip then cook on other side
If you would like to add sauted mushrooms and onions etc. it makes a delicious flavor

I made stuffed peppers tonight and they were good!

6 green peppers - take tops off and clean
2 bags of success brown rice - follow instructions on box
Sauté 1 onion and 2 cloves of garlic (think I could have used more)
All natural tomato sauce
Mix just enough sauce (add as you go) with the rice, onions, garlic, salt and pepper to look like Spanish rice. Sorry I didn’t measure! Lol! Stuff the peppers and bake on 350 for 25 min

Tonight we had a whole wheat pasta made with quinoa and turmeric! It was GREAT! Tomato sauce. Topped with sauté'd mushrooms and onions, (with minced garlic, salt, pepper, and fresh squeezed lemon juice). Roasted zucchini and sautéed asparagus.

Fasting... without prayer... is just a diet! ;)

CHALLENGE: Leave scriptures throughout the week that encourage you, challenge you, grow you etc. How is God speaking to you during this fast. Then encourage us with it!

I'll start!
Ephesians 3:16-17
"I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love."

Believing that His Spirit will indeed "strengthen with power in your inner being"! From the depths of our soul Lord...may we KNOW, sense, and operate in HIS POWER!!

I am here! I am very under the weather and just want some chicken noodle soup. Does anyone have a suggestion for a substitute? It just seems like old fashion chicken noodle soup works every time...

Hey Heather!!! I'm so sorry you aren't feeling good! I am wondering if you aren't experiencing the detox effect of the fast? Typically, after the first couple of days you can actually get flu-like symptoms as your body is, like, "withdraw". Did it just start? Have you been on the fast since Monday? Anyway... if this is the case, make sure you are drinking A LOT of water!! As far as a soup, I will see what I can find. I have made a potato soup that is very "comforting" .. not like chicken broth is though. :( It's listed in the recipe link up to the right. I'll look and see what I can find for you! Praying you will feel better soon and that this will pass!

Ok... here is an idea for you. I found a vegan recipe that was acceptable for a chicken noodle substitute... I have not tried this and they had a "vegan chicken" on here.. .and I don't know what that is LOL. So, I just took it out.

1 cup sliced carrots
1 tablespoon olive oil
½ cup chopped onion
½ cup chopped celery
4 – 5 cups vegetable broth
1 bay leaf
½ teaspoon dried Italian seasoning

I'm thinking it may need some salt ??

Noodles: any whole wheat noodle... I also tried a whole grain/quinoa/tumeric noodle from publix the other day that was really good! It was not as "tough" as 100% whole wheat.
Chicken: While chicken is off the list... some say that tofu is a good substitute. I am not a fan of tofu. But, if it's seasoned right, it is decent and gives the "texture". Or, you can just leave this out and have a veggie soup.
Veggies: If fresh veggies are too much to worry about while you aren't feeling well... most frozen vegetables are perfectly acceptable! I like Birdseye or pict-sweet.

Hopefully this will give you something to go off of :)

I LOVE this: I was reading in Genesis 41 NLT... in the 38th verse the Pharaoh/King said "Can we find anyone else like this man so obviously filled with the Spirit of God?" WOW! I have read this story so many times but this verse just hit me in a fresh way today! Oh God... may we be so "obviously filled with the spirit of God" that there is no denying your power and presence in our lives!!

I am making this part of my prayers during this fast!

Pastor Wayne Derry posted something recently in FB. I'm paraphrasing, but it essentially said that people should meet Hesus through us, and then we should speak. I pray God continues to help me focus on him, so that he shines through and around me.

Hey everyone, sorry I haven't posted yet. Not sure about anyone else but I'm sick. I don't mean detox sick, I feel like I have the flu (headache, head & chest congested, body aches, and a headache I can feel in my teeth). I'm pushing on, but would appreciate prayers for relief. God is working on me in very specific areas, and I have no doubt the enemy is unhappy about it.

Thank you. I took a heavy dose in Benadryl last night and slept well past church, but I can breathe and smell again. 3 days left, and we're going to finish strong.
